Liverpool no doubt has one of the best defenses in the world going into the 2022–2023 season.

Sepp van den Berg, a Dutch youngster, is eager to throw his name into the mix despite the fact that there are many experienced players jostling for game time.

The Dutch international first signed with the Reds in 2019, and have just arrived back at Anfield following a successful loan spell at Preston North End.

He takes pride in not letting players get past him while playing primarily as a centre-back.

Van den Berg recently returned from the Championship team and spoke to the club’s official website to reflect on what he learnt while he was away.

“I spent one-and-half years there. It had been a while, but It was wonderful there.

“I played a lot of games; I think having playing experience is essential, especially for a center-back.”

Although it “has been a great loan,” gaining experience playing “against some good teams” in “a challenging league,” but now I’m very “happy to be back.”

Van den Berg performed brilliantly during his time in the Championship, helping his club finish in the middle of the table last season.

Sepp van den Berg has drawn a lot of interest from other second-tier clubs as a result of his skillful performances, but he wants to show Klopp how he has improved while playing for Preston.

However, he faces stiff opposition at the center-back position. In the battle for game time, he is behind players like Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Ibou Konate, and fellow Dutchman Virgil Van Dijk.

So although he can be hopeful, with many superstar defenders at the top of Klopp’s squad list, the future of Liverpool’s No.72 is still a doubt.

Sepp’s contract is set to end in 2024, and even though he still has a few years remaining on it, another loan stint would be the wisest move for the youngster.

However, Liverpool supporters will be happy that they have yet another quality young player to add to their ranks regardless of what transpires.
