Piers Morgan, an avid supporter of Arsenal, has spoken out about Cristiano Ronaldo and admitted he is encouraging the Manchester United star to transfer to the Emirates.
The Portugal international has been heavily linked with a transfer this summer after telling the Red Devils he wants to go. After finishing sixth in the Premier League, United will play in the Europa League next season.
As he pursues winning the Champions League, a competition he is anxious to win at least once more in his career, Cristiano Ronaldo has no interest in slipping into that one. The 37-year-old believes he has about four more years of peak performance in him and does not want to waste it by playing in the Europa League.
The major front-runners for his signature, Chelsea and Bayern Munich, withdrew from the race, making it harder for him to find a club. There aren’t many options left for Ronaldo now, but TV personality Morgan has sent the five-time Ballon d’Or winner a private text with his own idea.
“I have had quite a lot of contact in the last week. I certainly think it’d be highly unlikely if Cristiano Ronaldo plays another game for Manchester United,” he told talkSPORT. “I just think mentally he’s moved on.
“I’m not going to say what we’ve said to each other but like I said from the start I don’t think Cristiano feels Manchester United share his ambitions. I think he feels that the signings they’re making, the commitment they showed last season, where they finished up and a lack of Champions League football.”
