Pundit Noel Whelan has claimed that Liverpool would be happy to bring back Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain.
Wijnaldum left Merseyside for PSG on a free transfer last summer, but the Dutchman had a challenging first campaign in Paris and was just awarded Ligue 1 Flop Signing of the Year.
The French champions, who are looking to improve their midfield options, are apparently looking to sell the 31-year-old.
Wijnaldum had been linked with a return to Anfield last week, but this rumor has now been debunked by reliable sources.
One English football analyst did, however, wonder whether the Reds and their fans would welcome the former Newcastle man back if the opportunity presented itself this summer.
The Premier League club would surely want to reunite with Wijnaldum, who had a hugely successful six-year spell in the North West, according to Noel Whelan of Football Insider.
The majority of Liverpool supporters, according to Whelan, “would probably want him back.”
“It’s really challenging to get a player back so quickly after they’ve departed when it comes down to the manager and the logistics of everything. Once you’ve made a choice, you must remain committed to it.
“He’s a great player, but all he could be is a temporary replacement. When it comes to the midfielder who comes in, Liverpool needs a more sturdy foundation. a person with some endurance.
“I believe that by taking their time and waiting for the ideal personnel to become available and join the club for years, rather than just one season, so they are acting appropriately.”
Last season, Wijnaldum made 38 appearances for PSG in all competitions while recording three goals and three assists. The Netherlands international has a deal with Parc des Princes through 2024, and Transfermarkt values him at 18 million euros.
The midfielder will be ready to make a move as he attempts to solidify his spot in the Dutch team with the World Cup coming up in the winter.
