This summer, Liverpool made key signings and agreed new deals with players like Milner, Salah, and most recently, Jota.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Reds are now trying to come to new terms with another Anfield star, Naby Keita.
The Athletic first reported in June that Liverpool and the Guinea international were in the process to secure a new contract.
Now, Romano has revealed that the former RB Leipzig man could sign a new contract with Liverpool. The renowned reporter wrote in Caught Offside:
“One of the next players to sign a new contract at Liverpool may be Naby Keita. There have been preliminary negotiations with his representatives, but they are not yet at the final stage.”
In less than a year, the 27-year-old midfielder’s contract with the Merseysiders will expire, and he earns £120,000 a week (The Mirror).
Keita was a hit with Leipzig in the Bundesliga, but since joining Liverpool, he has been highly prone to injuries. His fitness history is so scary (Transfermarkt).
Under Klopp, he only made 16 appearances in all competitions in the 2020–21 season and spent the majority of the time out due to injury.
He missed several games last season due to hamstring issues, started just 14 Premier League games, scored three goals, and provided just one assist.
Fair enough, he hasn’t lived up to the £52.75 million signing fee and doesn’t merit a new contract. What do you think?
