According to reports, Liverpool may offer Naby Keita in exchange for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella. Jurgen Klopp’s target is said to have a £77 million transfer cost attached to him, which is more than the Reds are ready to pay. As a result, they’re considering including Keita in the deal to lower the price.
Barella is one of Inter’s important players, with a four-year deal remaining, which explains the hefty asking price. Last season, the 39-times capped international appeared in 48 games in all competitions for the Serie A runners-up, scoring four goals and 13 assists.
In 2018, Keita signed a £50 million deal with Liverpool, inheriting Steven Gerrard’s famed number eight shirt. However, he has struggled to make an impression at Liverpool, frequently being benched in favor of the favoured midfield trio of Thiago, Fabinho, and Jordan Henderson. He could now be on his way out of the club as part of a deal for the former Cagliari midfielder.
Jurgen Klopp is ‘bewitched’ by Barella’s performances, according to Calcio Mercato, and would like to work with him ‘at any costs,’ despite the asking price. The Liverpool transfer hierarchy, on the other hand, is hesitant to spend that much money on the player, especially after the substantial investment made in Darwin Nunez.
According to the Italian newspaper, Liverpool is willing to let Keita leave the club in a swap deal for the midfielder.
This is unlikely to be well greeted in Milan, as the club is unwilling to consider losing one of its most prominent players.
Liverpool has already been quite active in the summer transfer season, signing Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsey immediately after the club revealed that they had won the race for Nunez.
Klopp stated of the signing of the Scottish defender on Liverpool’s official website: “Calvin is another fantastic young player, so we’re extremely pleased.”
“He’s got a lot of potential.” He is only 18 years old at the moment, but will turn 19 soon, and has already made a significant number of first-team appearances for a young defender.
“He is athletic, intelligent, confident, has good technical ability, and – most importantly – is ready to learn. As a result, there’s a lot to like.”
“We’re all incredibly excited to work with him and see how he grows and improves.”
Liverpool supporters will be hoping to see Barella join Nunez and Ramsey in the team’s roster, as the midfield is undoubtedly the team’s weakest position. This would strengthen the Merseyside club’s quality, allowing them to compete for the quadruple once more this season.
