Contrary to reports from Spain, Liverpool will not be moving to secure the signature of Marco Asensio this summer and have stood firm on Jude Bellingham transfer instead.
Since moving to Real Madrid from Mallorca in 2014, Asensio has fallen short of high expectations.
The Spanish attacker did score ten goals in the league last season, but that only covered up his inconsistent play.
When he was not a regular towards the end of the season, Real Madrid improved significantly.
The Real Madrid star could leave the Spanish club for free if a new deal cannot be reached as his current contract expires next summer.
This summer, Los Blancos invested on Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco and also signed Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer from Chelsea in an effort to balance their budget.
On the right side, Rodrygo Goes and Federico Valverde both leapfrogged him, and in a number eight position, he has never prevailed to the extent you would expect.
The Reds might contemplate taking the chance of signing such a rough diamond if he did become a free agent, but realistically, they have other options.
The midfield position will be Liverpool’s top emphasis in the upcoming summer, with Jude Bellingham as their top long-term priority.
Although Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella has also been discussed, attention is focused on the Englishman, who is valued at £100 million.
Paddy Kenny, a pundit with Football Insider, believes the Englishman will be keen on going to Anfield.
“Isn’t that a lot of money? £100million. He is undoubtedly a huge prospect and one of the top names in the world that people are looking at.
“I have no problem picturing Liverpool splashing that much cash on a big name. They have done it before with Alisson and Van Dijk.
Then there is Nunez as well so why not ? Liverpool always gets these deals right, and I have no doubt that they will consider signing him next summer.
Asensio will definitely need to look elsewhere from Anfield for his future destination now that Bellingham is most likely to arrive.
