Tyler Morton will spend the season on loan at Championship team Blackburn Rovers, according to a statement from Liverpool.
The Reds approved the 19-year-old’s transfer to Ewood Park because they want him to continue gaining professional experience after breaking through last season.
Morton has been at the Academy since he was seven. He progressed through the ranks at both the under-18 and under-23 levels before making his senior debut as a halftime substitute in the League Cup victory at Norwich City last September.
The teenager also made starts in the FA Cup and the Champions League – playing 90 minutes against FC Porto at home and away to AC Milan. In addition, the teenager started the 2-2 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur in December. Morton ended the season with nine appearances across all competitions.
Liverpool had briefly put the move to Blackburn on hold because of a lack of availability during pre-season due to several midfield and forward player injuries.
Morton is the latest player to go on loan from Anfield to Ewood Park. Despite Leighton Clarkson’s tenure at the Lancashire club being cut short last season, Harvey Elliott was a huge success at Blackburn during the 2020–21 season.
Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was part of the AC Milan side that was defeated by Liverpool in the Champions League final in Istanbul in 2005, is now the manager of Blackburn.
