'Liverpool have come in strongly': Reds in talks over signing £59.3 million star, July sale 'very possible'

Liverpool were linked with Antony Matheus dos Santos from Ajax earlier this summer.

However, since the Reds signed Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, reports linking Antony to the club have subsided.

In fact, a few weeks ago, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Liverpool had lost interest in the Brazilian.

He told Wett Freunde that Liverpool had considered signing him, adding that Antony was a player on their roster for a long time.

“Of course, that looks unlikely to happen this summer but not ruling out the possibility though, despite they are happy with Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho.”

It however appeared to be over at that point, but Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola has linked the two parties once more.

Speaking on Yahoo, Nicola claimed that Manchester United are “not alone” in the race to sign Antony, as reported by Sport Witness.

According to reports, Liverpool have “been keeping negotiations” with Ajax and his agent Junior Pedroso as well.

Indeed the Reds have been coming “strong” for the player.

It is very likely, according to Nicola, that “this auction ends positively for a transfer” in July.

He didn’t make it very clear, though, if Liverpool are currently the favourites to sign the player.

Ajax reportedly wants €80 million (£67.8 million) for Antony.

However, the tendency is that he leaves for between €65 and €70 million (£55 to £59.3 million).

Liverpool already strong in attack but Antony would be another top signing – Sports Deputy View

The reports that Antony is linked with Liverpool today seems a little unexpected.

Nunez and Carvalho have joined the Reds, and Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract.

However, Roberto Firmino’s contract expires next year.

And Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi, and Sadio Mane have all left this summer.

Even though Liverpool have are well-stock in attack and Antony’s fee is high, nothing can ever be ruled out in football.

Without a doubt, Antony would bloster the Anfield squad as he’s is a world-class player.
