THE LOWDOWN: PINO ON THE MOVE?
The 19-year-old is a top-notch young Spanish prospect who has already made an impact for Villarreal. He helped them in reaching the Champions League semifinals last season before being eliminated by the Reds.
Pino, a versatile winger who can play anywhere in a front three, has four caps for Spain netting once and has scored 14 goals in 77 games for the Yellow Submarine.
Despite the fact that his current Villarreal contract doesn’t expire until 2027, respective suitors have continued with their interest in him. This is perhaps not surprising given his plaudits; – Fabrizio Romano described him as a “special talent” when disclosing the player’s €80 million release clause earlier this year.
THE LATEST: LIVERPOOL KEEN ON SIGNING
Spanish radio broadcaster and journalist Xavi Jorquera Marquez stated on Monday that Liverpool and Arsenal are both eying summer moves of up to €40 million (£33.7 million) for Pino.
Although the La Liga team ‘asks’ for less than the release clause, the offers currently being made are too low according to Marquez.
“Villarreal have received two offers from two Premier League teams for Yeremy Pino. Those clubs are Arsenal and Liverpool. Both have put 40 million on the table. Villarreal asks 60 million for him.”
THE VERDICT: ONE FOR THE FUTURE
Pino is a huge prospect with a bright future, so Liverpool’s interest in him is encouraging and suggests that Jurgen Klopp despite signing a new contract earlier this year, is still making long-term plans.
The youngster would have to accept playing second fiddle to Mohamed Salah because of his right-sided role, but because of his versatility, he might be a good squad option and eventually replace the iconic Egyptian on a long-term basis.
Pino’s ever-improving efficiency in the final third is demonstrated by his six goals and four assists in La Liga last season, which were dubbed “incredible” by talent scout Jacek Kulig for a four-goal performance back in February.
