Liverpool are reportedly preparing to make a move for Ismael Bennacer and could test AC Milan’s resolve with an offer worth around £33 million ‘soon,’ according to CalcioMercatoWeb.
With three new arrivals so far this summer, Jurgen Klopp have been relatively quiet in the transfer market. Youngsters Calvin Ramsey and Fabio Carvalho have been brought in, while Liverpool spent big cash to replace Sadio Mane with Darwin Nunez.
Transfer speculations around the club have increased lately due to worrying reports about injuries plus some positions that needs to be strengthened with more options, not to also forget that Jurgen Klopp intends to replace aging Jordan Henderson who turns 33 next year.
However, reports suggests that Klopp is still looking to do more transfer business. CalcioMercatoWeb claims Bennacer is a target for Liverpool as they want to sign a new midfielder soon.
The Reds are prepared to test AC Milan’s resolve with an offer worth just under €40 million, which translates to about £33 million, and have been tipped to make a bid for the 24-year-old.
It is unclear if Milan would accept that offer or hold out for a figure closer to Bennacer’s exit fee as that bid would be about £9 million below his £42 million release clause.
Bennacer has just two years left on his contract and hasn’t showed any sign that he’ll sign an extension, so the San Siro giants may be open to the thought of cashing-in on him.
Moreover, the sale of Bennacer to Liverpool for £33 million would certainly help Milan balance the books since they recently spent a lot of money signing Belgian sensation Charles De Ketelaere.
Since joining Milan from Empoli in 2017, the midfielder has established himself as a key member of the team, and they would be reluctant to lose him. The midfielder made 31 appearances last season to help Milan win the Serie A title.
We’ll have to wait and see if this reported offer from Liverpool arrives as the Reds continue to work out the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
