Gavi’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, has been chastised by Joan Laporta for refusing to respond to Barcelona’s offer of a new contract for the 17-year-old.
The president of Barcelona met down with L’Esportiu to discuss a variety of topics, and he began by applauding Xavi Hernandez for his work thus far.
“Xavi [Hernandez] did a fantastic job,” Laporta stated.
“However, we had a poor finish to the season.
“I am dissatisfied with the team’s attitude.”
Gavi
Gavi’s future was then discussed by Laporta, who stated that De la Pena has not to respond to his new contract offer.
He explained, “The new contract offer was on the table for [Gavi’s] agent a long time ago.”
“We haven’t received word on whether or not he has accepted it.
“From what we’ve heard, he’s comparing the two and will have something to say soon.”
“We’ve previously informed him of our viewpoint, which the player’s agent is currently refusing to accept.”
The president of Barcelona then went on to criticize the agent’s activities.
“Gavi is a player who we all like watching,” Laporta said.
“He is 17 years old, and he has a bright future and present in Barcelona.
“We don’t understand why his agent is comparing offers and playing games with us.”
“Given our compensation levels, I believe the club’s offer is more than adequate.”
Barcelona, according to Laporta, will not go above and beyond what they have already provided.
“We won’t go above these salary levels because I don’t want Barcelona to follow in the footsteps of others who came before us and brought the club to ruins,” he stated.
Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski is unlikely to join the club this summer, according to Laporta.
He remarked, “He has a year left on his Bayern Munich deal, and that is the situation.”
“That’s all I have to say about it; I can’t say anything else.
“We’re going to let everyone get back to work.
“He’s a top-notch player that we admire as well, but he’s under contract.”
