A new update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Amadou Onana this summer has emerged. The club has long been admirers of the player.

    What’s the latest?

The Athletic claims that Liverpool are in competition with other clubs to sign the 20-year-old.

The Reds are reportedly keen to sign the Lille midfielder this summer, along with West Ham United, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest.

In order to sign Onana, Liverpool must improve upon West Ham’s efforts, who have previously submitted two failed bids for the midfielder.

    Klopp can finally axe Oxlade-Chamberlain

Following the club-record signing of Darwin Nunez last month, it was said that Liverpool are prioritizing midfield improvement. A move for Onana could provide Jurgen Klopp with the ideal chance to bolster his team before the Reds’ return to Premier League action next month.

The Merseysiders would benefit from finding replacements who can make a difference and have an immediate influence in the trophy-chasing club before next summer since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and James Milner will all have their contracts expiring this time next year.

Jacek Kulig, a talent scout, described the youngster as a “huge talent.” Onana scored one goal and created three big chances last season, while also making 0.5 key passes and 1.5 tackles per game.

The £50 million gem also showed he has tons of potentials by winning the majority of his duels (59 percent) and completing the majority of his dribbling attempts (62 percent) across 32 Ligue 1 appearances. He would certainly develop into a player to watch in the future if Klopp takes him under his wing.

It is speculated that the Reds may wait till next year to tackle their midfield rebuild in order to sign Jude Bellingham. However, they could get ahead by signing the 20-year-old Lille talent and offloading Oxlade-Chamberlain now, who has less than a year left on his Anfield contract.

Southampton and Manchester United have both been mentioned as prospective suitors for the £125k per week Liverpool midfielder, so Klopp may finally be able to get rid of the 28-year-old for a profit.

It doesn’t appear like Oxlade-Chamberlain would be greatly missed on Merseyside given that he was ranked 23rd of the 27 players who featured for Liverpool in the league last season (as per WhoScored).

Onana’s prospective signing might be a brilliant financial decision for FSG as he could be a tremendous future prospect in the middle of the park at Anfield. However, they will need to move quickly because other Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the Lille youngster.
