Ben Davies was left at home by Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool jetted off to Thailand for their pre-season camp, amid reports that he’s in talks with other clubs.
Davies, who was brought in as an emergency replacement from Preston two seasons ago, spent the whole of last season on loan at Sheffield United. However, it appears that the Blades have decided against re-signing Davies, and Jack Robinson and Ciaran Clark will likely be their left-sided options going forward.
And according to Sky Sports, Liverpool have left Davies back in England as he looks to advance negotiations with both Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers. Interestingly, Davies actually scored his only goal of last season against Blackburn.
For those center defense positions at Anfield, there is a lot of competition, so Davies was always likely to move on this summer. In that position, Jurgen Klopp has a lot of options and will allow the former Preston player to move on.
Labelled as ‘outstanding‘ when he did sign for the Blades, Davies eventually lost his place in the back three to Jack Robinson as United made the playoffs.
Sports Deputy’s View: Davies Needs Liverpool Exit
Being at Preston at the time made it impossible for him to say no, but Ben Davies should now focus on getting back on track.
He is more than capable of playing in the Championship, and teams like Stoke and Blackburn might provide him with the platform he needs to get his career going.
It is not very surprising that Davies missed the pre-season. The only thing left to do is for Liverpool to negotiate the best deal possible.
