Jordan Henderson has shown no sign of being worried about Sadio Mane’s departure from Liverpool this summer as the Red’s captain now backs a teammate to replace him.
Mane exit appears to be quite different, as he was a vital player who helped Liverpool win every major trophy over the past few years.
It was even bigger than that of the Brazilian, Philippe Coutinho leaving the club for a record deal given that the club didn’t have much success with the player.
But Jordan Henderson has given some insights about what’s next as be seems to believe Liverpool can handle the situation quite easily.
Jordan Henderson’s take on Sadio Mané leaving
“It’s always going to be difficult losing Sadio Mané because he’s world class, one of the best forwards on the planet,” Henderson said per The Athletic. We were very sad to see him leave but we wish him all the best.
“But for us, when you look at the forward line it’s still very strong. We brought in new players and if you check, you can see that we also have world-class players who performed well last season.
“Luis Diaz performed phenomenally well, look at Mo Salah and the numbers he’s got, and obviously Bobby (Firmino) is a big boost returning from injury last season. Hopefully Darwin Nunez is a huge player going forward for us and we have some young players coming through as well.
So there’s competition, and competition for places drives people on.
There’s a little shout out to Diogo Jota, who happened to have slipped under the radar. The Portuguese star could end up as the true Sadio Mané replacement.
But it is also clear that Luis Diaz will play a vital role as Henderson says the Colombia international was phenomenal last season. He looks fantastic and we can’t wait to see what he has next for us this season.
The jury is still on Darwin Nunez though, of course, he’s only just arrived. So it is Diaz who the Reds would hope to inject a little of what Mane had over the years. Firmino and Salah will also play their roles as always but now they need a left-winger who can form a trio.
Luis Diaz hopefully would be that player and can step up and perform as he did post-January and it is expected that Liverpool will quickly move on from Mane.
