Ex-Liverpool defender Jose Enrique says he has previously “recommended” that his former club sign Alexander Isak.
The Swedish international completed a £60 million switch to Newcastle last week and put up a brilliant performance by scoring on his debut against the Reds’ in the Magpies’ 2-1 defeat at Anfield on Wednesday night. Speaking about the forward, Enrique said:
“Isak is a player I really like and I recommended him to Liverpool last year. He suits the profile of what Newcastle need right now.”
Isak has previously been linked with a whole host of Premier League teams, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea. However, it is believed that his poor performance for Real Sociedad last season turned off many of his potential suitors.
Newcastle was taking a gamble by breaking their transfer record for the striker because of the 22-year-old’s huge asking price, which was also seen as problematic. We’ll have to wait and see how he performs over the long run, but based on his first appearance, it seems like they may have been right to splash out on him.
