On Friday afternoon, Liverpool unexpectedly broke the internet when they announced that star player Mohamed Salah had renewed his contract at Anfield.
Fans reacted positively to the news that Salah has extended his contract because rumors had stated that he was considering leaving for free next summer when his previous contract expired.
And they weren’t the only ones having fun. When Salah’s Liverpool teammates learned that the Egyptian King would be staying, they were overjoyed and rushed to social media to share the news.
Jordan Henderson, the team’s captain, started things off by resharing the post on his Instagram story with a simple party emoji, and Virgil van Dijk kept things straightforward with a GIF.
Then Kostas Tsimikas and Adrian expressed their agreement (yes, he does still play for Liverpool).
Salah’s new contract, however, didn’t simply delight Liverpool’s existing players.
Jamie Carragher was eager to rub Gary Neville’s nose in it, not just once, but twice. He was a part of the elaborate ruse that preceded the announcement.
The club and Salah were both congratulated by John Aldridge, who went even deeper back into the Anfield archives.
But the man himself must have the last say. After the shock of the news had subsided, Salah shared a photo of himself posing in front of his recognizable number 11 shirt.
He still has a lot to offer at Anfield, that much is certain.
