"He's washed, 'why can't we see that" - Liverpool man dragged after disappointing show against United

Liverpool supporters have reacted angrily in response to James Milner’s performance in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on August 22.

An injury crisis for Jurgen Klopp’s side rocked the Merseysiders’ midfield and it was a new-look middle three that faced off against the Red Devils.

Milner was chosen alongsideong captain Jordan Henderson and youngster Harvey Elliot.

The veteran midfielder had trouble dealing with Manchester United’s midfield, particularly when it came to Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.

He took issue with Virgil van Dijk for Manchester United’s opening goal, as the Dutch center-back became indecisive due to Jadon Sancho’s composure.

The midfielder was taken off his feet by the United forward whilst trying to block a fake shot.

After the first goal was conceded, Milner was then seen in a heated exchange with Van Dijk, and the English midfielder’s night didn’t get much better.

Marcus Rashford grabbed the Red Devils’ second in the 53rd minute following good build-up play and Milner was nowhere to be seen whilst United counter attacked.

Mohamed Salah’s header in the 81st minute gave the Merseysiders some hope, but they were unable to score a crucial equalizer.

This resulted in Klopp’s team suffering their first domestic defeat in 2022 and leaving them winless in their first three games of the season.

Here are some of the reactions from Liverpool supporters’ in response to Milner’s performance:

Liverpool’s midfield performance in defeat to Manchester United hints at need for new signing

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that his team does not need to sign a new midfielder.

After Thiago Alcantara’s injury during the 2-2 season-opening draw with Fulham, he said:

“I know what will now come up, it’s clear. We said we don’t need a midfielder because we have enough – and we actually have enough. But the problem now is we get punished for something that is not our responsibility really because things like this can happen.”

However, his side’s performance in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United tells the story of the problems that are present in midfield.

In Thiago’s absence, the likes of Henderson, Milner, and Elliot were just unable to have an impact.

Although Fabinho came off the bench, there is still a serious problem in the middle of the field.

According to the Telegraph, a move for Matheus Nunes, who just joined Wolverhampton Wanderers, had apparently been considered.

However, it appears that Liverpool is betting everything on Jude Bellingham, hoping to sign the midfielder from Borussia Dortmund next summer.
