According to recent reports, Arsenal is interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
The Gunners are expected to have a busy summer transfer window, with Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling being linked with a move to the club. Sports Deputy understands that Jesus is one of the names on the club’s shortlist, and technical director Edu has met with player’s agent.
The Brazilian international’s agent, Marcelo Pettinati, has even revealed that his client is interested in Arsenal’s initiative. Pettinati told transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, “We had negotiations with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus, we like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing.”
“There are six other clubs interested in Gabriel; he’s concentrating on Man City’s final games, so we’ll see.”” Mikel Arteta and his team are interested in signing City midfielder Gundogan, according to the aforementioned Romano.
His post said, “Agents for Gundogan are in talks with Manchester City’s board of directors. There was no conversation about a new contract; only about his future, which included the possibility of leaving the club.
“His vacation to Madrid had nothing to do with his future plans. Barcelona, German clubs, and Arsenal are all interested [depends on UCL].”
While the Gunners are unlikely to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, a transfer for Gundogan could make sense given the current Arsenal squad’s lack of experience, and the German international has made no secret of his admiration for Mikel Arteta.
“I had a really good relationship with him and was devastated when he left us,” Gundogan confirmed this earlier this year. “He had a rocky start at Arsenal, but I was always confident that he would succeed there sooner or later.
“Top four would be a big achievement for the team, in my opinion. They’ve done a fantastic job against us.”
