Arsenal’s top-four aspirations are now hanging by a thread following their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Monday night. The setback keeps Arsenal in fifth place in the Premier League, two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have a considerably superior goal difference going into the final game of the season.
On a messy night for the Gunners, a Ben White own goal and a late Bruno Guimaraes strike gave the Tyneside club all three points. Mikel Arteta’s team will have to not only win Everton on Sunday, but also hope that already relegated Norwich City defeat Spurs in order to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Sports Deputy has compiled all of the latest injury news that Arteta has to cope with ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, with Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu still a concern.
Despite his strong rookie season, Tomiyasu has been plagued by injuries and has already missed a number of crucial games this season. It could also be over soon, with the full-back leaving the game against Newcastle clutching his right hamstring.
“We didn’t realize we had to assess him,” Arteta added, “but he felt a muscular discomfort and we tested him.”
Expected return date: N/A
White having been out for numerous games due to injuries and suspensions across the backline, but following some late fitness tests, he made an early comeback against Newcastle.
Gabriel was another late starter against the Magpies, having been removed in the North London Derby due to an injury worry.
Tierney will miss the rest of the season after suffering a long-term knee injury for which he underwent surgery.
Expected return date: Pre-Season
Partey has been out of action since a 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace in April due to a thigh injury. The Ghanaian international was deemed unfit to face Newcastle, but football was his passion. The 28-year-old has been participating in individual training sessions each day with the goal of joining team before the end of the season, Sports Deputy understands.
A source told Sports Deputy that Partey could return for the final game of the season against Everton.
Expected return date: Everton (H) – May 22
