Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is now on Arsenal’s radar as the club are now considering a shock approach for him.
The French midfielder is a key player in Thomas Tuchel’s team. However, he only has a year left on his current Blues contract, earns among the highest salaries in the club, and had a string of setbacks due to injuries last season.
In order to surpass Arsenal’s fifth-place position from last season, Mikel Arteta wants to add more elite defensive players to his midfield ranks. Additionally, with Kante’s contract nearing its end, Arsenal is prepared to find out if Chelsea will cash in right now.
Kante, 31, is a campaigner with a ton of experience who has made over 400 professional appearances. He won Premier League championships in 2017 with Chelsea and 2016 with Leicester.
The veteran midfielder has also caught the attention of Manchester United. But Barcelona star, Frenkie de Jong remains Erik ten Hag’s major target.
Kante, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, will miss Chelsea’s United States tour as he is currently at home.
Both of the midfielders are understood to have not meet the entry requirements, which is a setback for Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s pre-season preparations as the Blues depart for their two-week tour. Non-US citizens are not permitted entry into the country unless they are fully vaccinated.
Last season, both players missed games after contracting the virus. Kante tested positive before Chelsea’s pivotal Champions League trip to Juventus back in September, a game they ultimately lost.
At the time, Tuchel steadfastly refused to provide Kante’s vaccination status, but he did add: “Of course we take actions and are completely responsible for them.
“We don’t like losing players. However, we are no longer upset with N’Golo. Like every injured player who receives a kick during a game, we are worried about him.
