Leicester City star, Youri Tielemans, have reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal ahead of a potential transfer to the Emirates.
After it was revealed that the 25-year-old was on the club’s shortlist this summer, the Gunners were linked with a move for Tielemans. Only one year is left on the Belgian midfielder’s current contract with the Foxes after he recently rejected an offer for a new contract at the King Power Stadium.
According to recent reports, the North Londoners’ interest in Tielemans “cooled” as they concentrated on contract negotiations elsewhere. Earlier this week, Arsenal reached a £45 million agreement to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, but sources indicate that the Gunners have since turned their attention back to Tielemans.
Jesus will follow Marquinhos, Matt Turner, and Fabio Vieira as Arsenal’s fourth summer signing. Many people thought the Gunners would not pursue a deal for Tielemans after they signed Vieira from Porto this summer, but it appears they have finally reached an agreement on personal terms with the Leicester star, and they may sign both this summer, according to CBS.
The North Londoners continue to have Mikel Arteta as one of their top targets as he attempts to improve the quality and depth of his midfield in preparation for the upcoming season. Tielemans played central midfield for Leicester last season and contributed five assists and seven goals.
The 25-year-old might be paired in midfield with Thomas Partey for the Gunners, or they could switch to a 4-3-3 formation, in which case Martin Odegaard would drop alongside the pair, much like Arteta occasionally did with the Norwegian midfielder last season. Due to the Belgian’s contract predicament and Leicester’s desire to prevent losing one of their greatest assets on a free transfer next summer, Arsenal will be able to negotiate a discounted deal for Tielemans this summer.
