Matheus Nunes is wanted by Liverpool, and the Sporting star allegedly believes a summer transfer to the Premier League may happen at any time.
The Reds had snapped Luis Diaz from Porto and Darwin Nunez from Benfica in 2022, raiding two of Portugal’s finest teams.
Sporting has so far avoided Liverpool pulling power, but that could change soon.
Rafael Camacho, Tiago Lori, and Sebastian Coates are all on the Sporting books, but Liverpool may now look to add a Sporting star to their ranks.
Liverpool want Matheus Nunes
Sporting star Matheus Nunes has recently caught Liverpool’s attention, according to the Portuguese publication Jornal de Noticias.
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea were also mentioned, although it was claimed that Liverpool had been pushing their way to the front of the line lately.
This season is expected to be a key one for Liverpool midfielders.
Can Curtis Jones establish consistency? Under Jurgen Klopp, can Naby Keita step up and become an undroppable player?
If “no” is the response to those questions, then Liverpool will probably spend a lot of money on a midfielder next summer.
Given that a deal for the Brazilian-turned-Portuguese midfielder this summer seems a little doubtful, Nunes might be a possibility if he becomes available in 2023.
However, Sporting man is reportedly of the belief that a move to the Premier League might happen at any time this summer, according to Correio da Manha.
Nunes is said to be “body and soul” with Sporting, but he is aware of real interest from the Premier League.
The player has developed into a solid box-to-box midfielder, and Jurgen Klopp might be an ideal fit for his speed, work rate, and energy.
He appears to have too much respect for the club to seriously demand a transfer, so won’t make a scene to leave Sporting this summer.
Nunes believes he might move to England this summer, though much will depend on whether Liverpool prefers to wait until next summer or make a bid now. Sporting are willing to sell for €50 million (£42.5 million).
